THE WELL

Resource – Relief
Pitfall – Abyss

In the image, an old well with a pulley dominates a rugged landscape, inhabited by a few farm animals. Its symbolism traces directly back to the Game of the Goose, an ancient initiatory path disguised as entertainment. In the game, the Well is a compulsory stop: a place of blockage, waiting, and suspension. If a player ends up in the well, they remain immobile until another player frees them, as if the journey required an external intervention, a help, an act of mercy. It is also a symbol of sacred water, of purification, of an obstacle that presents itself as both gift and trial.

In the Jungulus, the Well preserves these same meanings. It is resource and relief, a point of salvation and at the same time a trap disguised as benevolence. Some situations in life seem like an oasis, and truly are, until we discover that they have no exit, like the island of Ogygia that welcomes and imprisons at the same time. The well is the archetype of the abyss: a smooth cavity, without handholds, that cannot be climbed out of by oneself. It is that existential moment in which an external hand is needed, a call from above, a rope thrown by someone who sees what we cannot see. It is the symbol of a request for help that can no longer be postponed.

So, my dear one, if your subconscious has chosen this card, perhaps it wants to tell you that:

If the card speaks about you – Light

Within you there is a deep resource, an inner water that can heal, nourish, and restore strength. Your well is not a trap, but a hidden reserve that now wishes to be reached. If you find the courage to look into the depths, you will discover that there is relief.

Questions for you
– What inner reserve are you finally recognizing as a source of strength?
– Where can you stop, and let your true energy flow, without feeling guilty?
– What is emerging from the depths that you have never considered valuable?

If the card speaks about you – Shadow

You may have entered a situation that holds you back, like a smooth well that offers no support. Perhaps you confused comfort with refuge, and it now reveals itself as a gentle cage. Or you are facing an underestimated setback that requires more help than you were willing to admit.

Questions for you
– Where are you remaining immobile because you cannot ask for help?
– What “relief” has turned into dependence or into a kindly trap?
– What keeps you stuck, even if it appears harmless?

If the card speaks about the world – Light

Something around you may offer relief, but not in an obvious way. It is a resource hidden in the everyday, a discreet help, a place that regenerates if you recognize it. As on the initiatory path, the well can be a stop that prepares the next step.

Questions for you
– Where does unexpected support appear in your environment?
– Who represents a silent source of nourishment?
– What forced pause might turn out to be providential?

If the card speaks about the world – Shadow

The context may hide a trap well disguised as an opportunity. From the outside it looks like a resource, but in reality it slows, limits, or blocks. As in the game, it is a square that imposes suspension of movement, an unforeseen event that calls for caution before descending or drinking.

Questions for you
– What situation seems useful but hides a risk of immobility?
– Where is the world asking you for a pause you did not foresee?
– What could drag you downward if you do not remain vigilant?
