THE COUPLE

Origin – Union
Separation – Maladaptation

On either side of the tree of life stand two archaic figures, reminiscent of Adam and Eve, naked and primitive, as if sculpted in a time that precedes history. At their feet, two small monkeys gather or offer something to the tree itself, acting as silent guardians of a bond older than humanity. This card does not speak of romantic love, but of primordial duality: masculine and feminine, human and animal, animal and vegetal, present and past. This is the only card in the deck in which all forms of life are brought together — human, animal, and vegetal — as a family that has never truly been separated. It is the card that recalls the One, the return to the origin, the deep bond with that from which we come. Unlike the card of Nature, where the human figure is absent, here the human being finds their place within the sacred ecosystem, without hierarchies. The Couple invites a step back from alienating evolution, a return to the earth, to roots, to ancient memory. It asks: which primordial part do we need to reclaim in order to be whole again? And which aspect of the masculine or the feminine, of our present or our past, is calling for balance?

Therefore, dear person, if your subconscious has chosen this card, it may wish to tell you that:

If the card speaks about you – Light

You are recovering a deep sense of belonging: to your roots, to your body, to your history. This is a time in which you are integrating different parts of yourself — masculine and feminine, instinctive and rational, ancient and present. The call of the earth and of origin can guide you toward greater inner unity.

Questions for you
– What aspect of your past is calling to be acknowledged?
– Where do you feel you have regained balance between instinct and awareness?
– In what way are you drawing closer to your original nature?

If the card speaks about you – Shadow

You may feel divided, separated from an essential part of yourself or from your past. Perhaps you are rejecting your instinctive component, or your more tender side, or you are experiencing maladjustment between who you are and the environment around you. The Couple in shadow warns that without memory of our origins, we risk building a life that is unsuited to our nature.

Questions for you
– What part of yourself are you excluding or judging?
– Where do you perceive a fracture between your origin and your present?
– In which situations do you feel that you no longer belong?

If the card speaks about the world – Light

The context around you favors union, reunion, and the possibility of integrating differences and dualities. You are entering an environment that supports a return to roots, understanding of the past, and reconciliation between discordant parts. The world invites you to recognize what unites, not what divides.

Questions for you
– What external signs invite you to rebuild an ancient bond?
– Where do you see harmony between human, nature, and instinct?
– In what way is the world supporting you in finding unity?

If the card speaks about the world – Shadow

You may find yourself in a context marked by separation, disharmony, and loss of contact with nature and origins. The world may show divisions between masculine and feminine, between human and animal, between past and present, reflecting a collective fracture. The Pair in shadow warns of the risk of creating realities that no longer align with our essence.

Questions for you
– Where do you observe a loss of connection with nature or with roots?
– Which external dualities make you reflect on your own?
– In what sense does the world around you seem to have forgotten its origin?
